This has to be one of my favorite recipes. Fried mozzarella is so addictive and the taste is way better than any fast food mozzarella stick. Try these as an appetizer at your next party or make a few in advance for when you want a filling snack. Try using smoked mozzarella for something a little different.
Usually I make them in the shape pictured below and I find it to cook a lot better than the cubes. No matter what shape you make them, they will be delicious!
Fried Mozzarella Bites
- 2 lbs whole milk mozzarella, or smoked mozzarella cut in cubes/sticks
- ½ cup flour
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1 cup panko
- 2 tbs freshly grated parmesan
- ½ tsp Italian seasoning
- ½ tsp salt
- oil for frying, vegetable or olive oil
Cut mozzarella in desired shape. Set up a breading station with flour in one bowl, beaten egg in one, and panko mixed with parmesan, Italian seasoning and salt in another. Dredge mozzarella in flour then dip in egg and cover in panko mixture. Once all mozzarella is completed, let chill in the refrigerator for at least an hour. Mozzarella can also be frozen until you are ready to cook.
When you are ready to cook mozzarella, heat about an inch of oil to about 350 degrees. Cook mozzarella on each side until golden brown. Drain on paper towel and serve with your favorite marinara.
